Warehouse rooftop solar in Gauteng

Warehouses and distribution centres in Midrand, Johannesburg and across Gauteng usually have large, unshaded roofs and most of their electricity use during the working day. That makes them a good fit for rooftop solar: the panels produce power while lighting, cold rooms, conveyors and offices are running.

Before we design a warehouse system, we check the roof structure and sheeting, review your electricity bills and load profile, and confirm the grid connection. We handle SSEG registration with the municipality or Eskom, and we can add battery storage for backup or peak shaving where the site needs it. Businesses can buy the system outright, or use a PPA or lease, available directly or through a finance partner.

Solar for your type of site

Warehouses and distribution centres

Warehouses and distribution centres often have large roofs. We design commercial rooftop solar for that roof area, and battery storage where the site needs it. See battery energy storage (BESS).

Factories and manufacturing plants

Factories and manufacturing plants need systems that can handle high power demands. The factory solar savings and payback guide sets out how a plant’s bills are used to estimate payback.

Office buildings and corporate campuses

Office buildings and corporate campuses can use rooftop solar and solar carports, so parking areas provide shade and generation.

Retail and shopping centres

Retail and shopping centres can offset daytime electricity use with rooftop solar. Solar carports and electric vehicle charging can sit on the same site.

Farms and agricultural sites

Farms can use solar for irrigation, processing equipment and storage, with solar VSDs running irrigation and borehole pumps directly from solar. See agricultural and farm solar.

What we build

Rooftop and ground-mount solar PV

Rooftop and ground-mount solar PV for commercial and industrial sites, with system design, structural analysis and performance modelling for the site.

Battery storage (BESS)

Battery storage for peak shaving, time-of-use supply and backup during outages, with finance options to reduce upfront capital. See battery energy storage (BESS).

Solar carports and EV charging

Solar carports turn parking areas into shade and generation. Electric vehicle charging can be added on the same site.

Solar VSDs

Solar variable speed drives (VSDs) run pumps and motors from solar power.

Monitoring, maintenance and thermal drone inspections

After commissioning we provide operations and maintenance, and we can monitor performance. Thermal drone inspections find faults such as hotspots that are not visible in ordinary light.

How a commercial project works with Green Leaf

  1. Bill and load-profile review. We review 12 months of electricity bills or interval-meter data, your tariff and your load profile.
  2. Site visit. Engineering covers custom system design, structural analysis and performance modelling. A thermal drone survey is available when it is part of the scope.
  3. Design and proposal for the site, bought outright or funded with a PPA or lease, available directly or through a finance partner.
  4. SSEG approval. Green Leaf handles SSEG and NERSA registration and municipal approval as part of every project, so the system can be registered with City Power, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Eskom or NERSA. See SSEG applications.
  5. Installation and commissioning by our team.
  6. Monitoring and maintenance. We monitor performance and provide operations and maintenance. Thermal drone inspections can check the array after it is in service.

Buy, lease or PPA

Businesses can buy the system outright. PPA and lease options are available directly or through a finance partner. See how each model works on solar PPA, lease or buy for business.

How much does commercial solar cost?

For an outright purchase, GreenCape’s industry brief, Solar PV for businesses in the Western Cape (Table 1, published March 2026), lists cost multipliers against a plain rooftop installation: an asbestos-replacement roof at 1.30–1.50, ground-mount at 1.10–1.20, and a carport at 1.25–2.00. System size, roof type and structure, grid connection, equipment tier and battery storage set the price. Green Leaf pricing is by quote only, after a free site assessment. Contact us for pricing.

Areas we serve

We work mainly in Gauteng, from our base in Kyalami Park, Midrand, including Johannesburg and the City Power, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane areas. We also take on commercial and industrial projects anywhere in South Africa, and in Zambia and Zimbabwe, such as our 442 kWp logistics site in Harare.

Commercial solar installer in Johannesburg, Midrand and Gauteng

Green Leaf Alternative Solutions is a commercial solar installer based in Kyalami Park, Midrand, working across Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and the rest of Gauteng. Our commercial and industrial division designs and installs rooftop and ground-mount solar PV, battery storage and solar carports for warehouses, factories, office parks, retail centres and farms, from a few hundred kWp up to multi-MW microgrids such as the 2.5MW solar PV and 3MWh BESS industrial park near Lanseria.

Being local matters on a commercial project: we do the site assessment in person, we know the City Power, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and Eskom SSEG processes, and our in-house team handles design, installation, commissioning, monitoring and maintenance from Midrand. Green Leaf is a PV GreenCard Certified Installation Company (INST-9619573), a certification issued by SAPVIA, and an ECB Listed Contractor (29820), with 1,500+ projects and 21MW+ installed. Questions about commercial solar

Do you install commercial solar in Midrand and the rest of Gauteng?

Yes. Green Leaf Alternative Solutions is based at 58 Kyalami Boulevard, Kyalami Park, Midrand, 1684, and designs and installs commercial and industrial solar for businesses across Gauteng. It also takes on projects anywhere in South Africa, and in Zambia and Zimbabwe.

What size commercial systems do you build?

Our projects include a 440 kWp commercial site in Roodekop, Germiston (2023), a 728 kWp shopping centre with 110 kWh battery storage in Westonaria (2023–2025), a 935 kWp shopping centre in Lenasia (2025) and an industrial park microgrid near Lanseria with 2.5MW solar PV and 3MWh BESS (2024–2025).

Can you add battery storage to a warehouse or factory?

Yes. A battery energy storage system (BESS) stores electricity for peak shaving, time-of-use supply and backup during outages on warehouses, factories and other business sites. Our largest operating commercial project has 2.5MW of solar PV and 3MWh of battery storage. See battery energy storage (BESS).

Do I need to register a commercial solar system?

Yes, if it’s connected to the grid. Systems up to 100 kW register with Eskom or the municipality, and systems over 100 kW register with NERSA (Eskom, 30 Sep 2026). City Power requires approval before installation. Green Leaf handles SSEG and NERSA registration. See SSEG applications.

Are there finance options that reduce the upfront capital for business solar?

Yes. PPA and lease options for businesses are available directly or through a finance partner, and they reduce the upfront capital the business needs. Under a PPA the provider funds the system rather than the business. Whether any other fees apply depends on the specific agreement. See solar PPA, lease or buy for business.

How long does a commercial installation take?

It depends on the size and scope of the job. After a free site assessment, you get a project timeline with your quote.

Do you maintain and inspect systems you didn't install?

Yes. Green Leaf offers SLAs (service level agreements) and assessments on any installation, including systems installed by other companies. See thermal drone inspections.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Green Leaf Alternative Solutions is a PV GreenCard Certified Installation Company (INST-9619573), a certification issued by SAPVIA, and an ECB Listed Contractor (29820). It is also Dept of Labour Registered.
